Frozen
Shoulder Definition
Frozen shoulder also
known as adhesive capsulitis. It is a condition that effects the shoulder
joints causing pain and stiffness. Frozen shoulder occurs when the tissues
around the shoulder joint become thick and inflamed.
Frozen
Shoulder Symptoms
The symptoms of frozen shoulder
can vary in severity and develop gradually over the time. Frozen shoulder
mostly effects one shoulder but in some cases, it can occur in both shoulders.
Limitation of
Motion - In this problem,
range of motion from the shoulder become significantly reduced. It become
difficult to perform simple tasks like combing hair, putting on clothes and
carry weight, etc.
Shoulder stiffness -
Shoulder
stiffness is a main symptom of frozen shoulder. In this case, the shoulder
joint become painful to move and movement gradually decreases as a result all
the shoulder related activities become challenging.
Shoulder Pain -
Regular pain in the shoulder joint is a common symptom of frozen shoulder and
the pain can lead to ache. In most of the cases, pain may also interfere with
sleep and mainly when lying on the effected side.
Frozen Shoulder Causes
Weakness of Shoulder muscles
The weakness of the
shoulder muscles can lead to Frozen shoulder, it causes pain and restricted
range of motion.
Lifting heavy weight
Lifting heavy weights can potentially aggravate to the development of frozen shoulder, because lifting heavy weights puts a significant amount of stress on the shoulder joint if proper techniques are not followed.
Some diseases
In certain medical
conditions like diabetes, thyroid, Parkinson’s, bone related problems and auto-immune
related disease can increase the risk of developing frozen shoulder.
Age factor
Frozen shoulder is more
common in individual aged between 40 to 60, however risk increases with age.
Genetic Factors
Some research shows
specific genes are involved to developing frozen shoulder.
Deficiency of Minerals and Vitamins mainly
of
Ex- vit B6, vit B12, vit C, vit D3, Vitamin E, Phosphorus,
Magnesium, Zinc and Calcium.
Sedentary lifestyle
A sedentary lifestyle
often involves prolonged sitting or inactivity which can result in limited
shoulder movement. Lack of regular shoulder movement can contribute to joint
stiffness and decreased flexibility, which can lead to increasing the risk of
developing frozen shoulder.
Lack of physical exercise
Lack of movement or
physical exercise can lead to the formation of adhesive capsulitis causing the
shoulder joint capsule to tighten and thicken.
Any injury
Any previous injury or
trauma in the shoulder such as fracture can lead to the development of frozen
shoulder. The inflammation at the time of injury around the shoulder movement
may restricted.

Treatment for Frozen Shoulder
Yoga Therapy
Yoga is best therapy to
the treatment of frozen shoulder, as it promotes strength, flexibility and
relaxation. In yoga practice gentle stretching exercises can help improve the
range of motion and flexibility of the shoulder joint. Slow and controlled
movements, such as shoulder rotation, arm circles and gentle stretches for the
chest and shoulder area can be beneficial. Gentle modification of Yoga poses
like Downward Dog, Cobra Pose and Child’s Pose are very helpful for manage this
problem.
Weight management
Weight management have
positive impact on frozen shoulder, because excess body weight puts additional
stress on the shoulder joint. By managing and reducing weight, we can alleviate
some of the stress and pressure on the shoulder.

some relief for frozen shoulder symptoms, in this technique involves applying

application of low-level electrical currents to the affected area to reduce
inflammation and pain relief. The specific type and parameters of electric
stimulation used in physiotherapy for frozen shoulder may vary on the
individual’s condition.

the blood circulation at affected area.
