The term "brain" typically refers to the organ that serves as the central hub of the nervous system in humans and many other animals. It is located in the head and is protected by the skull. The brain plays a crucial role in controlling various bodily functions, interpreting sensory information, processing thoughts and emotions, and coordinating voluntary and involuntary movements.

The human brain is an extremely complex organ composed of billions of neurons (nerve cells) that communicate through electrical and chemical signals. It is divided into different regions, each responsible for specific functions such as motor control, sensory perception, memory, language, and emotions.

In addition to its physiological functions, the brain is also associated with consciousness, self-awareness, and higher cognitive processes.

Knee Pain Definition


Knee pain refers to soreness, discomfort and aching sensation around the knee joint. As we know that, knee joint is a complex structure that connects the thigh bone (femur) to the shinbone (tibia) and is also supported by other bones, tendons, ligaments and muscles. Knee pain can vary in intensity, location, duration and it may affect one or both knees.

 

Knee Pain Symptoms

Pain

The intensity and location of the pain may differ based on the structure tendons ligaments and cartilage of the affected knee.

Swelling

Inflammation in the knee joint can cause giving the knee a puffy, swelling and enlarged appearance.

Stiffness

Knee pain often leads to stiffness into joint making it difficult to fully bend or straighten the knee. This can result in decreasing the activities involving the movement of legs.

Limited Function

Knee pain can badly impact daily activities and functional movement such as walking, standing, squatting and getting up from chair.  

Redness and warmth

Inflammatory conditions or infections affecting the knee joint can cause redness and warmth over the effected area.

 

Knee Pain - Causes


Acute injuries

Usually, the result of sudden trauma or accidents, such as strains, sprains tendons and tear in the ligaments.

Overuse injuries

Repeated stress or strain on the knee joint due to running, jumping. 

Arthritis

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, occurs when the protective cartilage in the knee joint wears down over the time. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that can also affect the knee joint.  

Tendonitis

Inflammation of the tendons that attached muscles to the knee can cause pain and discomfort. The patellar tendon (connecting the kneecap to the shinbone) and the quadriceps tendon (connecting the quadriceps muscles to the kneecap) are commonly effected.

Dislocation or kneecap problems

The kneecap (Patella) can become dislocated, causing intense pain and imbalance.

Lack of exercise

Electric stimulation

Electric stimulation, also known as electrotherapy, is a therapeutic process that uses electrical currents to stimulate nerves and muscles in the body. Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a non-invasive technique that involves applying electrodes to the skin around the knee. The device delivers low-level electrical currents that can help reduce pain by blocking pain signals from reaching the brain and stimulating the release of endorphins, which are the body's natural painkillers.

Frozen Shoulder Definition

Frozen shoulder also known as adhesive capsulitis. It is a condition that effects the shoulder joints causing pain and stiffness. Frozen shoulder occurs when the tissues around the shoulder joint become thick and inflamed.

  

Frozen Shoulder Symptoms

The symptoms of frozen shoulder can vary in severity and develop gradually over the time. Frozen shoulder mostly effects one shoulder but in some cases, it can occur in both shoulders.

 

Limitation of Motion - In this problem, range of motion from the shoulder become significantly reduced. It become difficult to perform simple tasks like combing hair, putting on clothes and carry weight, etc.  

 

Shoulder stiffness - Shoulder stiffness is a main symptom of frozen shoulder. In this case, the shoulder joint become painful to move and movement gradually decreases as a result all the shoulder related activities become challenging.

 

Shoulder Pain - Regular pain in the shoulder joint is a common symptom of frozen shoulder and the pain can lead to ache. In most of the cases, pain may also interfere with sleep and mainly when lying on the effected side.  

  

Frozen Shoulder Causes 

Weakness of Shoulder muscles

The weakness of the shoulder muscles can lead to Frozen shoulder, it causes pain and restricted range of motion.  

 

Lifting heavy weight

Lifting heavy weights can potentially aggravate to the development of frozen shoulder, because lifting heavy weights puts a significant amount of stress on the shoulder joint if proper techniques are not followed.  

 

Some diseases

In certain medical conditions like diabetes, thyroid, Parkinson’s, bone related problems and auto-immune related disease can increase the risk of developing frozen shoulder.

 

Age factor

Frozen shoulder is more common in individual aged between 40 to 60, however risk increases with age.

 

Genetic Factors

Some research shows specific genes are involved to developing frozen shoulder.
